Today we said goodbye to Broome. We packed up camp and went for a quick swim to cool down before hitting the road again. Best swim ever!! We got to Derby around lunch and went to the visitor center to get a better update on the Gibb River Road. After talking to them and still the uncertainty of the fires we've decided to change our travel plans. We are going to head to Windjana Gorge and camp there for a couple nights and then instead of heading further along the Gibb we are going to head out to the highway and around and come back in at the top of the Gibb as El questro shuts on the 20th. A lot of the camping grounds had burnt out and or were closed for the season so was not a good time to do the Gibb. May have worked in our favor having to wait in Broome for parts otherwise we would have been right in the middle of where the fires were.
We went and had our lunch down near the Derby Jetty. Wowsers it was hot 43 again and a nice hot wind. We had our wraps then off to the prison boab tree for some pics. Kylie rocked up with lemonade icy poles which was the best treat ever.
We made our way into Windjana NP camp ground. The turn off to Windjana from the Gibb was heavy corrugated. Definitely not peak season we had the whole generator camp ground to ourselves.
Set up camp and downed some wines :) chicken and pasta salad for tea was spot on as didn't feel like anything too heavy. Kids went for an explore with their torches and had a ball.
We thought since we were the only campers there we would keep the generators running all night instead of turning off at 8. I think it ran out of fuel around 3 in the morning so that was good. Nice to have the aircon until then.
