About 100kms this morning into Norseman to find a church. Came across a Church's of Christ missionary service at 10.00am. It was really interesting, had to wait almost an hour for them to pick up Aunty Mary out at the mission to come in, it was a good time to get to know them a bit.
There was Pastor Sonny, us, another white couple, Aunt Mary, James an indiginous chap who had danced at the Olympic games and about 20 indiginous kids at the service. Pastor Sonny gave a message to the kids, they sang a couple of songs then he gave us a message on the value of the past, the present and the future. It was interesting and he spoke of how Jesus was stronger than their tribal magic.
After the service we cooked some steak and some of the roast vegies on a public barbeque at the information centre that was very clean, very nice.
Then headed off to Kalgoorlie. Drove around Kambalda, a lot of modern buildings, a great looking school and facilities. The mining families get it pretty good today really.
Drove out to Lake Douglas Recreation reserve about 12kms out of Kalgoorlie thinking we would camp there the night. It was a long way out and not all that appetising. We headed into the city and found the Baptist Church had a young Adults service at 7pm, that sounded like us. Found a park with some toilets and got ourselves organised. It's a fantastic church with great facilities. Music pretty much like ours. A young bloke gave a thought provoking message. An enjoyable evening then back to the park where there were a couple of other vehicles parked for the night.
