Saturday we had a clean up there is a tap on the building we are parked alongside. I replaced the strut in the poptop roof, it was a tough job, very hard to compress to get in position, fortunately a bloke lent me a set of steps. We then did some shopping in Karratha and had a look around, went to an afternoon market at the family centre it was mainly kid stuff. Then back to camp the night in Dampier.
Sunday morning went to Karratha Baptist, it was the induction of their new pastors Steve and Jo Jarlett. They had been interims since Pastor Phillip from Beaumaris had been there.
Had lunch at the Dampier yacht club then back to Karratha and did some shopping. Stayed there until after eight then back to Dampier parking next to the boat ramp.
Today we went to the Burrup Peninsula, checking out the port, the Ammonia plant and the huge LNG set up. That really is an enormous operation, you can't actually get in to any of these operations. The visitor centre was quite interesting.
We then drove out the peninsula, didn't go all the way on the track I was a bit concerned about the tyres on the rocks but went through a couple smallish creek crossings. Then went for a long walk it was interesting with some fresh water soaks as well as lots of mangroves.
Then went back around to Hearson Cove where you can see the Stairway to Heaven at the right time of month, there are also toilets there.
Not far from here are the Aboriginal Rock Art, this is just an area out in the bush with no signs to it, the only time we had heard about it was in the Lonely Planet then specifically asking at the visitors centre. We learnt on the Internet that they estimate there are around a million petroglyphs in this area, amazing that you can just walk around and climb all over this unique irreplaceable artwork at no cost with no one around.
Saw heaps of kangaroos as we drove around then drove back out the peninsula and parked in the bush for the night. A good day.
