Decided I could never of been an interstate truck driver today. Today was our first drive of big distances between towns and nothing to see. Don't know how those guys and girls do it week in aand out. My hubby still misses it. They've got to love their own company.
The first place we encounted after leaving Kalbarri today was a place called BIllabong at it is just 2 roadhouses side by side that provide fuel food and a bed for the night if you need it. I was pleasantly surprised that the shabbier looking of the 2 advertised and made gluten free food. (Would love to know what my coconut slice tasted like but the emu at Monkey Mia was to quick at took it.. Managed to get it back but after being in that bill I wasn't willing to try.) So it pays to not judge a book by its cover. Both roadhouses were very popular with the many travellers, going both north and south.
Then off we headed to Denham and Monkey Mia with a stop at Hamelin Pool to see some more stromatolites. Wow! they were definitely bigger and older than the ones we saw at lake Thetis. Worth the 5 km detour.
Next stop was Monkey Mia as you have to turn just before Denham. Will call in on our way out on monday.
Monkey Mia is so different to wht i had imagined but it is calm and beautiful. We quickly set the tent up in the grassed area. Half an hour from wow to go. fastest time ever. I then cooked tea for the first time in 18 days. After which i went for a walk on the beach to watch the sunset and take in the calm after so many days of listening to rough seas.
I went for a walk past the short jetty where nobody else was. I started taking photos of pelicans. In one of them i caught the sight of a fin. I was lucky to get to see three dolphins all by myself and only about 2 to 3 metres out from the shoreline. Thats the picture you are always to slow to catch. I did manage to get some nice photos though. I then walked back to where other people were and tw of the dolphins were hanging around.
Now looking forward to the interaction feedings tomorrow. Along with many others.
