Today we drove a short distance to Albany, which is where we will be staying till Boxing Day. We managed to get a lovely spot in a Big4 park only about a kilometre from the town centre, so tomorrow the bikes are coming off the back of the caravan and we're going to use pedal power. We took the tourist drive along the coast that goes up Mt Clarence through the Avenue of Honour lined with trees and plaques and leads to the ANZAC Memorial Statue. On the way down again it loops back to the Main Street in Albany Town Centre. We didn't realise how rich in history Albany is. There are many beautiful old buildings in and around the Town Centre and the last operational Australian Whaling Station is here in Albany also.
We also discovered that In many cases the shoreline of Albany was the last piece of Australian land that the diggers saw before boarding the boats heading to war.
We are looking forward to discovering more of Albany over the next few days.
Lochie's already made lots of friends in the caravan park as there are heaps of kids here which is great!
