So here we are in Santiago again. Two years on and there's still scaffolding on the cathedral. We left Padron, the home of th lovely green peppers this morning in rain with Roger expecting the usual bad language from me as I get soaked. You really can't blame me. His cheerful comments like " I do like your hair when it get wild and frizzy" and " it's not quite as bad as Rabalas " or some other town where we get rained on. And even worse " I think we're nearly there " when we've got 2 hours to go. But I do love him for keeping me going.
The town looks much the same but much quieter then when we were here before at the end of June. Lovely mix of old and young all having their celebrations and reunions in the square in front of the cathedral. A thousand restaurants selling Gallegan stew and octopus and Santiago tart - yum. The tart not the octopus.
It's been 600 Kms minus a few taxi rides, and lots of interesting people and places on the way.. But although the churches, crosses and chapels along the Camino are stil there, religion feels to be dead here. Church notice boards are empty, few masses and a feeling that it's all over for the Catholic Church.
But not for us, we're putting on the boots tomorrow to head for the coast. We will miss our friends who joined us last time...jane and Alice, phil and rosie. But the big question for us as we carry on is will be able to watch Eurovision Song Contest tomorrow ?
