We tried Kampalas's night life last night and stayed in The Backpackers Youth Hostel for the first time.
We really had a great time. We met up with Caitlin, Rosie and Georgia and then at Backpackers (because everyone is so warm and friendly) we became friends with 2 Irish guys, Al and Paddy and they also joined us :)
It was weird going out and people smoking indoors just as it's not the norm back home now. We all really enjoyed ourselves and it was nice to go to the bar and order a Soda. I had a lager but didn't see the need, plus it tasted horrible! :) So I drank and danced away with a Fanta in my hand :)
In one club the TV was showing La Roux's video and as a joke within the group we say that's who I am, so we were all cheering, only for a Ugandan lady next to me gasping, hugging me, "Oh my god I can't believe it, Oh my god this is amazing" I couldn't burst her bubble so my 'crew' escorted me out and told her not to tell anyone I was there ;)
Getting back to Backpackers at 2am, we were up again at 6:30am, to get ready for Sanyu. Lack of sleep but I didn't feel tired and as usual had a good day at Sanyu :)
Found out Joshua is in hospital. His results keep coming up positive then negative for HIV. He's too young really to be diagnosed correctly, but he's always ill, so I think he has it.
Also last week a baby was brought in premature and taken to hospital. Some how she survived and I was saw her today, wrapped in 2 blankets and in her winter wear. They're just trying to keep her so warm because technically she shouldn't of even been born yet. They've called her Mary :)
Last Sunday we went to Lugogo Cricket Oval to see the World Cup Trophy and we managed it, after time.. I shall explain ;)
We turned up and paid 500sh/ for a white wristband, only to find that to actually get a photo with the Trophy you need a red wrist band and these were won by people through competitions on the radio! We left the arena, on search of these lucky people outside, in an attempt to buy them off them but still no luck! When we entered again we found a crew man with loads of passes. Running up to him all excited he too didn't give any up not until we payed him 20,000sh/ (6pounds) :)
We entered the Trophy tent were we watched an incredible film by Coca-Cola/FIFA and then had our moment of glory with a quick snap with the Cup :)
After we went sat out on the field infront of a stage that was giving out free merchandise of Coca-Cola, we were shouting for it all too, only to be called up on stage.. Vic and me were then dancing with the 2 DJ's, getting our funk on infront of thousands of Ugandans :) It was brilliant, plus we got a whole full bag of Coca-Cola stuff - Football, T-Shirts, Horns..
Leaving the stage we then saw Oscar and Shaun in the crowd :) We then spent the rest of the day trying to get them in. Only a few hours later they ended up allowing the public in for free! Shaun and Oscar got in with no hassle and saved money, jammy or what :)
After the World Cup we then headed to our first session of Salsa dancing :)
Turning up we were intimidated just by the room, so didn't stay and ordered food instead. It was so tasty! And then we realised we were being silly, so letting the amazing Nachos go down we went and joined the group. It's run by an old, short Ugandan man, who can certainly move his hips ;)
For the first time, me attempting a dance routine and I did it! Was very pleased with myself :) Vic didn't enjoy it as much, as she was getting frustrated but we're going to keep going.
Keish came and obviously had nothing bad to say ;)
We thought she was staying the night but her itinerary was typed up wrong and she was only coming for the day. It was a shame as Madam Jane had spent ages making the guest house tidy and presented her bed so lovely too. Plus we wanted to make her dinner etc.
School has had their exams this week so we aren't teaching, so she didn't get to see us in action both at home and at school, so to Vic and me seemed a bit pointless! Anyway, she took us to see a new project in the middle of nowhere and wow it looked incredible. We then went out for dinner and saw 2012 (graphics are poor, I don't recommend going!) in the cinema. We did enjoy our day with her though, just was a shame..
We have booked our first trip of our travels - Murchison Falls :) Murchison Falls is in Uganda and the worlds most powerful waterfull. We're catching a boat right to the bottom of it and then we're going either Chimpanze or Rhino trekking, not sure yet :)
Oh yeah, the last blog I said my fruit salad was 3,000sh/ it's not, it's 1,000 around 40p! I'll stop on the food money front now, I'm sure you get the idea that I'm impressed on how cheap everything is :)
Bought a radio on Wednesday, it has brought so much joy to our life right now ;)
It's so good, as everything is cheesy, although we can't compete with Mr Omen next door. He still manages to play his tunes louder. Friday we has all of Boney-M's greatest hits on tape :) Altough I'm not complaining all that much.. "By the rivers of Babylon" :)
I just wanted to say, I hope you're all enjoying my blogs and photos!
Each weekend I get so excited about coming online and sharing everything with you! Because this isn't just my experience but I want to make it yours too :)
Lots of Love x x x x
