Cannot believe how fast this week has gone, Saturday ALREADY!
I described in my written diary that the porridge we have at school looks like wallpaper paste and on Tuesday that description turned out to be exactly that.. The school use our morning porridge as glue for putting up poster, paper etc :)
I've been asked to do Football and Netball training at school. The only problem is that the school only have 1 ball. The ball they use for Netball is actually an old football. I'm looking foward to the challenge though :)
I came to Bulenga Primary School, imagining I would be teaching ABC, 123 but it's incredible how clever the children are from 5 years up to 14. At 14 they are already studying areas in Maths and Science that I did at 16+
We've seen some punishment towards the children but it's not abuse nor cringe worthy. Corporal Punishment is bascially being hit with a stick or a smack on the back on the head. The children behave and respect their teachers as they do fear it and luckily they behave for me, as they know Mr Sentoogo will be called if not! :)
Stickers - The childen love them! I give them little smiley faces stickers in their books for good work and your see them in the lesson looking back at them smiling away, showing their friends. I also gave Hope a sticker on her shirt after good behaviour. Her smile was huge :)
Madam Jane - She is a teacher at school, our neighbour and bascially our Ugandan mum. She's done so much for us and if she wasn't here I don't know what we would of done. Always dancing and singing, it's great to share her company :)
Found a way to de-crease my shirts. Every night we boil our water to drink the next day, so whilst it boiling, I stand there over the steam with my shirt and try to shake the crease out and it actually works :)
Bought a pineapple last night, it was delicious. Can't wait for the season when the rest of the fruit is ripe and ready, as all the carbs we are having are so bland - Would love some new flavours :)
We have had our 5th mouse and this cheeky one was on my bed!
Probably been the hardest week, just due to the fact I've been sooo tired!
Try to get to bed by 9 each night, as we're up at 7:30 but it's usually around 6 instead due to Mr Omen, who likes to play his music and sing very loudly in the morning. There are so many emotions at school, always up and down with the children and then coming home to all the daily chores and the ever so frustrating charcoal fire! Our coal is hard this week and hasn't been lighting so we've been getting hot charcoal from other people and then spend ages flapping at it with a plate, trying to spread the flame. But even at the end of each tiring day I seem to go to bed with a smile on my face, so it cancels it all out! :D
Sorry about photos this weekend, not sure if it's going to work.. :(
Lots of Love x x x x
