We have found out that 6 of the older ladies who volunteer are retiring after 20 years service at Sanyu. The only problem is due to all the time they've been at Sanyu, they've had free accomodation, food etc and now that they're leaving, the leave with no money, some with no home or family! It's really sad. They are really really great with the children, lovely ladies. I think Sanyu has been trying to do some fundraising for them, I wished I'd known a while back otherwise I would of loved to helped them out a little bit. Will be a shame to see them go!
Finished school officially on Friday, although Vic and me haven't been in this week.
Last week, Monday and Tuesday school had exams and after that no-one turned up. The parents dont see the point in sending their children into school after exams.
We've been given the term date for next year, 1st Feb. Nice long break :)
We're off to Kabale on Monday. Kabale is West Uganda and dubed as 'The Switzerland of Africa' I even bought a pair of jeans, as I don't think 3/4s are going to keep me warm :)
Not sure how long we're going to stay but we've booked our accomodation for 3 days. We've got friends there, so it could be longer :) We're staying in Home of Edrisia and they guide book said, 'Experience the novelty of staying in a museum, plus it's free entry for guests!' We cannot wait!
The mice are back, after a months break from them!
Vic is very lucky as she's a heavy sleeper but I can hear them in the night, coming out of their holes and scuttling around everywhere. I just lay there imagining their journey across our living room - Behind the chair, take a left, up onto the table... Oh sleepless nights :)
Went to the Craft Village. They have some really great stuff. Going to go back just before we leave and buybuybuy :)
The best thing about it was you were allowed to browse, without the shopkeeper forcing things upon you. All said was 'Hello, your welcome' :)
Bought a flask and it has been fantastic! We are able to take tea in the morning with our bread yumm :) It's so good how small things make you the happiest out here!
Tea - Our tea is tea leaves with hot water and 2 tablespoons of sugar. Love it and will be defiantly bringing some home with me :)
Vic bless here she's constantly being told she is fat. It may sound offensive but in Uganda it's not. It's just said lovingly 'Madam your fat!' Or when walking in Kampala they shout at here 'Hey small!' We're always laughing but the funniest 'size sentence' was said by Madam Jane the other day, "Vic your chin is getting smaller!" :)
I forget to say in last weeks blog.. When we stayed in Backpackers I had Muesli and MILK! Milk - Haven't had it 3 months. Yep, I'm taking Calcium tablets ;) And the Muesli was oh so tasty! As my parents know I have it every morning back home, miss my breakfast :)
Before I go, I would just like to wish Denise James all the best for her walk across the Great Wall Of China for Breast Cancer! Mum sent me the newspaper artice. Good Luck :)
