Hello :)
I've been on duty this week at school. The Headmaster only comes to school once in a while, so the person on duty does the weekly report on how school has been, incidents, discipline etc. I'm up at 5:50am to be at school for half 6 to greet all the students with a 'goodmorning' and handshake. And then usually leave school around 6pm. It's a long day, but 2 portions of porridge keeps me going :)
It's an interesting week for me as I have to get up and leave for school on my own and the same when Vic was on duty, I had to go home to do all the chores. In a sense it gives you a little feel on what it would be like if you lived/worked here alone.
Independence Day was great fun. We went to the Air Strip with Caitlin and Rosie to watch the Parade only to turn up and it had finished which was a shame but we met up with Martha, Georgia, Oscar and Shaun and headed off on Bodas to New York Cafe, for what was simply the best Pizza and Milkshake I've ever had :)
Caitlin and Rosie stayed at ours. Had our latest night so far, 1am, shocker! :)
Caught the taxi home no problems, we have now conquered Kampala all by ourself :)
Just spent the night playing with all the children and chilling. Had a lovely time. They love Madam Jane and it just makes you feel so guilty knowing that they're going back to their project without the love we've got around us in our compound.
Went to Church on Sunday with Madam Jane. The service was in Lugandan but really did enjoy it. The choir and African drums were incredible. Great experience and think we're going to keep going once in a while.
We have applied to Sanyu Orphanage. We will be going every Saturday to help out with the daily care of the children and care of the house/garden. There are only 38 children from 2 days - 2 years old. The set up looks really good - I cannot wait :D

I'm still helping with the house building although they haven't been there the last few days due to the rain.
Went to Isobel and James this weekend. It was great to see everyone and catch up all together as a group! :D
We were all sat round discussing each others problems and they main topic was Corporal Punishment at school. We are fine with ours at Bulenga, as it's not abuse or just for the sake of it but hearing other peoples stories, Isobel is getting in touch with Ministry of Education because it is seriously wrong! Caitlin was saying about a day were she witnessed Baby Class and P1 (4-6years) getting beaten. They were on the floor getting hit with a stick, head to toe. Caitlin was talking and just burst into tears. They're really finding hard, especially as they live with the Headmistress of their school, nothing really can be said. But it's going to get sorted now! It was just so shocking and sad.
We had a talk from Dr Stockley. And a very interesting fact that left us all open mouthed.. You have more of a chance of catching HIV sleeping with 1 Ugandan man than sleeping with 200 men in the UK!
Learning Lugandan is going really well. Can now count 1-20 :) Currently learning stuff to use at the market, it's fun :)
Lots and Lots of Love x x x
