When we left Sanyu 2 months ago for our hoildays, the whole of the baby section was full, coming back there are only 5 left and the same with the older toddlers. At least 20 plus have been adopted, it's fantastic!
This weekend I was the only Mzungu (white person) there. (Vic headed into town with the girls to go shopping) It was very tiring as I was in the baby section and usually there are other volunteers to help change nappies, clothe, sweep etc. I've had many family members who have had children, so I've had the experience of holding, caring for them but to be put to have such a responsibility of feeding, clothing a few days old baby, is quite a daunting one.
It's the first time, I've felt like crying at Sanyu since we started there. I was told that Micheal is a month old but I really can't see how! You see young children on Comic Relief etc but to be in the presence, holding a baby so tiny, so thin was just unreal. I just held him close to my chest, he felt so fragile.
It was a really good day, very tiring - I feel asleep during my lunchtime but I'm glad to be back with them all.
Harriet is Madam Janes niece and 13 years old. She's so sweet and teenager like anyone back home but she works her socks off at home. We just wanted to pamper her so painted her toes and finger nails. Whilst I was painting her hands I was knelt too far down and burnt my hair on the candle! When we got the torch, I realised how bad of a job I'd done but she was happy :)
We went to Sophies new project Saturday night. She's just in a small room, within the school grounds. It's tiny, smaller than our living room but a lovely little space. Soph is now with a host family, so they prepare the food etc for her. It's something I personally wouldn't of wanted or been able to live with but she said after 5 months of living like a Ugandan this kind of change is okay. I think she's going to be very happy there.
Off home now. I'm exhausted, an early night is in need!
Sending lots of Love to you on Valentines Day x x x
