Didier Moutia's Travels
Today we enjoyed our last rest day.
We headed into Downtown Disney for some fun late morning.
Downtown Disney is not a theme park but a collection of retail outlets, restaurants and smaller attractions. A great place to visit on a cold or wet day. The precinct is also open until very late.
We checked out the Disney Quest attraction in Downtown. This is marketed as an indoor amusement park. We were impressed and it is indeed great value when you consider what it costs to go to a normal arcade and at Disney Quest all arcade games and attractions are included in the admission price. Disney Quest has 5 levels of activities, games and rides ... all indoors.
We started on level 5 and did the "Invasion! An ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter". This is a ride where you work in a team of 4 to rescue your space crews while under attack on another planet. It was fun but nothing earth shattering. Also on this level there are some classic electronic games which the kids had fun playing as did the adults.
Level 4 was focused on video games with a sports theme. My kids again had a ball!
Level 3 has an attraction called "Mighty Ducks Pinball Slam". 10 people compete in this over-sized digital pinball machine. Isabelle beat everyone with a score of over 1.4 million ... impressive! On Level 3 there is also the Buzz Lightyear's AstroBlaster ride. Basically this ride combines bummer cars with cannons. It looked like fun but the kids were not too interested and wanted to spend more time with the arcade games, all of which on this level are car racing types including a massive linked Daytona game.
Level 2 was more creative type activities such as the SongMaker attraction, the Animation Academy where people can learn to draw their favourite Disney characters and the Living Easels. There are two rides on this level. Cyberspace Mountain which allows you to create and ride your own roller coaster. This is similar to an attraction at Epcot. However we think this version at Quest is better. There is another ride called "Aladdin's Magic Carpet Ride". The boys were not so interested in this attraction.
Lastly Level 1 has a virtual Jungle Cruise ride which is fun. The "Pirates of the Caribbean" ride was real fun. It is a 3D ride where a team of up to 6 fight other pirate ships in order to take their gold.
In addition to Disney Quest we had a great time at the Lego stoy and we had a great lunch at the Rain Forest Cafe. The cafe is decorated like a jungle and has life sized animals throughout the restaurant. The animals in many cases move and every so often you have a short storm simulation in the restaurant complete with lightening. It is a busy restaurant so get there early. We would have also like to do the TREX Restaurant. It also looks amazing but time was against us!
