Didier Moutia's Travels
When we last visited Seaworld in 2013 we enjoyed the VIP package. The VIP package was great but it was also relaxing doing the park at our own pace this time and not to a schedule.
We started today by doing the big rides ... several times! We started with the Manta Roller coaster, a roller coaster which requires riders to ride prone and has four inversions. My middle boy loved this ride.
Last time we were here my middle child loved feeding the Manta Rays. The first thing he wanted to do today was feed the rays. All the boys loved this. For $5 you get food to feed the rays. Just watch the birds! We went back and fed the rays at the end of the day also.
It was not long before we headed to the 'Sea of Legends' area where we did both the Journey to Atlantis and the Kraken rides. Journey to Atlantis is deceiving it is both a flume ride and a roller coaster. It is a great ride but you will get wet! The Kraken is a smaller coaster but packs a punch. As the website states, the ride has seven inversions, two vertical loops, a dive loop, a zero g roll, a cobra roll and a corkscrew! Olivier loved it but still thought the Manta was the better ride.
Next stop ... The Empire of the Penguin exhibit. This is a new addition since our last visit. Rather then a ride it is an 'experience'. It is a really cool way to combine a ride, education and animal encounter. This experience takes you through a journey following an animated penguin. The ride finishes in a chamber where you can see a colony of penguins up close. There are 4 species of Penguin present. The chamber is cold and you do need a light jacket. The kids loved this ride.
The penguin shena****ns were not complete. We booked into a Penguin encounter experience. On our previous visit we did the VIP package which included a behind the scenes feeding session with the dolphins and seals. The behind the scenes penguin encounter was exactly that. We were taken back of house by a penguin specialist and got to see Penguin chicks, enter the enclosure and spend time with two penguins. The kids loved touching the penguins and they seemed to enjoy it also. It was a serious highlight of the day and well worth doing.
The Shark Encounter was OK but I have seen better elsewhere. Onto the next exhibit which we did love was the Wild Arctic attraction. Basically this attraction simulates a trip to the Arctic and an Arctic Research station. The ride can make people feel unwell and we saw one poor woman who learnt this first hand. There is a stationary version of the ride. Like the Empire of the Penguin the ride finishes with you entering a simulated Arctic environment where you can see cold water animals. Isabelle had a great time playing with a seal which followed her movements on the other side of the glass.
We finished the day with some time at Shamu's Happy Harbour followed by a visit to Turtle Trek. The boys loved the ropes play area in the Harbour area and this gave mum and dad a well earned break! The Turtle Trek was great, again an experience ride which finishes with an awesome 4D short 7 minute movie.
Thinking back to our 2013 trip, to do Seaworld well, you could easily take 2 days to do the park. Day 1 on the VIP tour to take in the shows and day 2 just doing the bits you did not get to on day 1. The park was a big hit again with the boys and suits any age although there are only three roller coasters, 2 of which require a minimum height of 54 inches, something to keep in mind if you have some shorter thrill seekers.
