Our last day was in San Francisco! WOW
What a fantastic city. I personally absolutely loved it. We started the day by catching the ferry to go to prison....... that is visiting Alcatraz. It was such a fascinating place. So much history, so many interesting stories. Incredible buildings. I can't imagine the experiences those prisoners would have had.
After visiting some of the important building where families used to live and where the kids used to play. We got to take an audio tour of some significant places where some very well known prisoners attended the place. Prisoners like Al "Scarface" Capone, Robert "Birdman" Stroud and George "Machine Gun" Kelly to name a few. We heard all about the escape of those 3 prisoners who were never found.
You can easily spend half a day there and learn so much, but...... we only had one day in this city.
So back on the mainland we decided to take a Hop-on, Hop off bus to check out the place. Before starting the ride and looking at the map, we told the boys that we could see the windy road that is so famous in so many movies. The boys having a laugh at us and thought we were being silly, so we got them to ask if the bus tour operator would know the windy road and funny enough we were right! The city reminded us a lot of Sydney and it is often referred to a sister city. Although, the architecture is quite unique and very distinctive. Our highlight was crossing the famous Golden Gate Bridge, unfortunately due to time we weren't able to see the windy road :-(
Got a late lunch in a typical 50's dinner. The cadillac car and old style radios were all there, and of course the music to go along.
Unfotunately, the time came that when we had to make our way to the airport to board the flight home.
Long trip but happy and sad to be home. Such a wonderful time and very memorable as this could be our last very big trip as a family considering the boys are getting older but fantastic memories that will be everlasting.
Home Sweet Home! So happy to see the dogs! Now time to share our experience and stories with family and friends.
