A longer sail today 25 NM still in a F5/6 with quite large waves. We are tied up on the town key outside a micro brewery. It was cool on the water despite bright sunshine. Day 2. On route down our toilet pump failed so we had to visit the chandlers €200 euros later it’s now fixed and our tank can be pumped out, if I was at home I could have replaced the broken bolts and rebuilt it, another job for next winter and we will have a spare. In the town this weekend is Germany’s largest on water boat show, the equivalent to our Southampton. Southampton is a bit bigger but there the similarities end, this one is free to enter, they even lay on a free shuttle bus from the town where we are moored. Moorings cost from about €10.00 to €17.50 a night including electric compared to Poole 5 years ago at £45.00.
I don’t like buses, I’m not in control of the things, this one was no exception. We were coming up to a train level crossing when with no warning the barriers came down, no lights, no bells just down, the driver hit the breaks and everyone was thrown forward. The barrier came to rest and stopped over our roof, not quite touching so the driver could reverse out before the train went thundering past. It’s now Saturday night and very busy, we are the inside boat on a raft of 4. Toilet macerator pump is now fitted but I will leave testing it as the restaurant is full of people enjoying the evening sunshine. We both like Neustadt especially being tied up to the town key and the long walks, one particular part between a wood and the sea there are so many birds all singing, they must be encouraged as there are lots of bird boxes.
