Day 39- WE DID IT!!
La Jolla to Mexican Border to Hotel in San Diego. 57miles- Sept. 18 -Tues.
Left La Jolla early and followed beach path around Mission Bay into Point Loma. Past U.S. Naval Reservation and followed path past San Diego Airport and Harbor. Several "Tall Ships", were on display as well as naval ships. Here we boarded the Ferry to Coronado Island- 15 minute ride to another tourist destination and more military. Stopped for coffee and met a fellow
wearing a "Pacific Coast Bike Route", bike jersey, he had done the same route we did but from the south to north. Continued on bike path around Coronado to "Silver Strand", and a long ride to Imperial Beach, in south San Diego and finally around "Tijuana River National Estuarine Research Reserve" to "Border Field State Park" and the end of our journey.....end of road....on Pacific Coast! Just Mexico......or Ocean!
We then retraced our ride back to Hotel.
"Bicycling The Pacific Coast", my guide book says - Vancouver to Mexican Border is 1987.3 miles....Fran's Garmin says about 1700 miles!!
Whatever, my trip was extraordinary, it was very challenging but I loved it and am so happy to share the ride with my good friend Fran. There were very hard, tiring days and days that made me feel so happy to be alive! We live in a wonderful place and are so fortunate.
