Day 38- Monday, Sept.17- 28 miles
Oceanside to La Jolla
Up usual time, into lobby for free breakfast- good! Nice ride beachside out of Oceanside. I would come back here- not so fancy, at least parts we saw- but nice! Right into Carlsbad, Encinitas (coffee), Cardiff, Solana Beach. Wall to wall cities! At Del Mar, famous for it's race track, I spotted a UPS store...Fran had mentioned them.
Went in and shipped all our camping gear, etc. home plus my trailer....I feel so light now and can go downhill fast, the way I like too!!! Yeh! We each have two panniers to carry what is needed.
Passed so many state Beaches but they all look alike and have the surfers bobbing in the waves. By noon we arrived in La Jolla and checked into our room. Then went for lunch and explored. This is the first safe beach that I saw where anyone can swim or snorkel. Clean, clear water and you can even swim with the seals. 1970's a underwater Park was established. It is beautiful. Love it! There is also a very trendy shopping and tourist area here, lots of restaurants and cafes. The Scripps Institution of Oceanography is here. We are actually in San Diego but will be at our destination tomorrow.

Mary Awesome Mary , Love Del Mar lots of artisans in that area. I was in Del Mar for a soccer tourney a few years back great area (Ken ). Enjoy the lighter luggage and be safe , Enjoy the last bit of riding on your journey. Love Mary ,Ken ,Jess ,Carly and Ken jr

Rennie Looks like you will not meet up with Janet, too bad! Only couple of days left and you and Fran had an incredible journey! Only thing left is shipping bikes back, will you get local shop to pack up? Depending on airline, you will be looking at up to $150 or more now:( Southern California is a wonderful place to visit BUT would not like to live there:) Lots of love, your brother:) Oh, last time I swan with seals they were biting chunks out of my flippers and scaring the hell out of me:)
