Day 29- 44miles- Saturday, sept 8
Motel 6, Marina to Pfeiffer-Big Sur State Park. Woke to fog in Marina-breakfast at Denny's-really good and filling. Found the "Monterey Coast Bike Trail", wonderful to ride on a paved trail away from traffic! Being Saturday bikers, joggers, and walkers were out in numbers. It took us along the shore to "Fisherman's Wharf", in Monterey, nice.
Off course- some friendly locals helped us get back - up, up, as usual with our of ACA map. Finally we got onto highway #1 and a steep descent into Carmel and our first coffee break and rest stop....fancy area! Next 29 miles took us on an exciting thrill ride- narrow shoulders, traffic, tailwinds, side winds, spectacular climbs with beautiful ocean views right beside us. One area the side winds were so strong we could not ride,
so walked. A bit scary! Then inland to touristy area of Big Sur with few amenities but lots of campgrounds and resorts. We chose H/B site at State Park, good at $5.00 each.
Sitting at site with sun shining through redwoods, very nice.
