Day 37- 48miles- Sunday, September 16. Newport to Oceanside
Left motel after huge breakfast(why do they serve such large portions inUSA?)
Fog and headwinds greeted us. Went past turnoff for Balboa Peninsula - from highway it looks like a great place also biked by Crystal Cove State Ark- yes Gillian I would come back and stay there! Next Laguna Beach- trendy and screams money!! But took a break there out of wind. Not a good biking area-no shoulders and drivers very impatient!
We have been lucky lately-no hills-OMG! Today made up for it! Plus those head winds!! Next quickly through Dana Point onto bike trail beside freeway and train track on other facing backs of houses and Capistrano Beach. We then had a roller coaster ride through San Clemente suburbs. We were going to camp but urban camping is not for us. State Parks so close to town, also big surf competition at San Onofre park, so keep biking onto Military base, Camp Pendleton, was wonderful using their bike path (old highway). Long way but finally reached Oceanside- Denny's for late lunch and across street Day's Inn-food and rest!!! Easy day turned into a
hard one. Sunday traffic- construction!
Visited the beach near our hotel, really nice wharf and wonderful beach.
