Day 34- Sept. 13- Thursday- 60.5 miles
Santa Barbara to Leo Carrillo State Beach.
Left Santa Barbara in fog, along side streets to Cabrillo Blvd. and Carpinteria, our first stop. Then 101 and highway 1 to Emma Wood State Beach and a
Bike trail along beach onto side streets through Ventura onto Oxnard and Port Hueneme where there was a colourful Fisherman's Wharf
and info about the Channel Islands. Also had lunch and the clouds faded and the sun came out! Next we headed inland past turf farms and veggie farms along Navalair road where there is a large air force base. This brought us out to the Pacific Coast Highway around the Santa Monica Mountains State Park and a whirl wind ride beside the ocean with wonderful tail winds- it is as if there is no sound! But you are flying along, only the sound of cars.....this is biking at it's best!! Found good H/B site at Leo Carrillo St. Park. Protected from winds and hot temperature among the large trees, pretty site. Nice to be camping-no wifi but I like my tent!!!
