Soongies' Great Adventure
Kate and Calvin spent the morning doing some chores as it was the second last day in Heswall before heading onwards with their travels. A lovely FaceTime session with Kate's family in Perth filled the rest of the morning and Auntie Fiona enjoyed catching up with Catherine over the screen. As it was a nice sunny day outside (quite rare in this season), Fiona suggested a walk around the walls of Chester. Of course, Barnaby came along as well. And of course, by the time we got to Chester, it was starting to rain a bit! We had a nice stroll around the walls of Chester completing the loop before stopping in a little pub - the Commonhall - where we had nibbles and a hot drink. As Barnaby was looking so happy, lots of people loved making a fuss of him - which he didn't mind. Calvin needed a new stuff sack for his sleeping bag and Kate was still looking for some socks that would fit her shoes. So we all headed to Blacks Outdoor store and Cotswolds. Blacks came through with the socks and Cotswolds gave Calvin a spare stuff sack for free! They did get some business though as Calvin bought a set of Bananagrams! Heading home from Chester we stopped off at the Tesco's in Heswall to get the ingredients for fish pie for dinner. Auntie Fiona had a recipe from one of Mary Berry's Aga cookbooks and it was sensational! Creamy mix of salmon, smoked haddock and cod, a layer of crumbled egg then finished with a solid layer of creamy mash cooked to a nice crisp in the Aga. Sooooo good! We then finished up the night with a few rounds of Bananagrams (no surprises).
