Had a bit of a rough night last night.. Mom woke around 1030pm with really bad leg cramps....it was dark and couldn't tell what was going on but she gave me a fright.... I couldn't fall back to sleep then the parade of women going to the bathroom began at midnight !! Hmmmm maybe the German naked man snoring next to me was better!! Oh well I did get a few hours of sleep and we headed out early in the morning it was supposed to be 29 out and we had 9kms up a mountain ahead of us.... We hit the grocery store at 730 and was on our way some breakfast on the go and a lunch packed ... We walked 9 kms up a mountain covered with wind mills... Mom was a trooper... I would go ahead and wait at the next flat spot.... She was feeling better this morning..... I can't even describe the views ..... The sun was shining and it was hot but the whole way there was a nice cool breeze.... It took us just over three hours to get to the top where there was these cool wrought iron statues of pilgrims .... Good time for picnic lunch and photo opps!! The breeze was nice and we sat in the shade and took a nice long break.... We then walked 3.7 kms down down down very steep to a small village called Uterga and at this point after 12 kms of up and over the mountain mom decided that was enough for her.... We called her a taxi and I walked on with two German ladies.... They asked all kinds of questions about life in Canada and me about Germany .... It was a lovely 7 km walk to Puente la Reina..... Mom and I had decided to meet at the albergue on the other side of town.... It is a really nice place up on a hill so the little .5 km walk up the hill did me in.... Exhausted and it is even too hot to sit outside in the shade.... Siesta time...there is hardly anyone staying here as the others apparently had more energy and walked back into town... The English barristers found us and tried to get us to go back to town but I just did not have it me..... So mom and I had supper alone in this great room.... A big salad with tuna and tomato.... Mom was in heaven!!! Today I should of had sunscreen on and am burnt to a crisp!!! Tomorrow sunscreen !!! We are off to sit outside.... The sun has gone down and it is beautiful out.... I am tapping away on my phone and mom is writing in her journal with a pen!! I am not able to upload my pics as there are only sd readers and I have sdhc so it will have to wait...Gnight

Karen Ribout Hi Martha & Sheila: Great big kudo's to both of you for the long walk. It sounds like you are both well, all things considered, cause you are walking so darn long. Good vibes sent your way. Good luck with the sunscreen. Send some heat to Canada.

Marty Chamberlain I did the Camino at this time 10 years ago.. loved it.. I enjoyed it so much I did it again in September..much better weather.. we had a lot of rain.. Reading your blog brings back so many memories..sigh..I want to do it again.
Marty Chamberlain One more thing.. Potassium for the leg cramps.. either from the farmacia or start consuming lots of bananas, you are sweating out lots of important salts from your body that aid in muscle function.. Trust me.
Mark You missed the mother of all parties that night. Still. If tuna and tomato is your thing...
