Finisterre.... The end of the world or so it was thought....and what a beautiful day it was.....I got up bright and early and headed out on my own.... Mom has been to Finisterre before so I went on my own.... The bus ride was about 3 hrs.... The first hour was winding through villages in the hills..... And then the hills suddenly opened and there was the ocean....beautiful...the sun was shining and the water was glistening....we wound along the ocean through villages and past white sandy beaches with that turquoise water.....for two hours.... arrived in Fisterra around noon and promptly found a cafe for cafe con leche..... The bus was full and am not sure where everyone went but I assumed on ahead of me or in a taxi.... I walked the 3 or so kms up a windy road to Finisterre.....I am not sure what was going on but there was some sort of ceremonial gun fire going on and a boat out in the harbor responding with blasts as well..... I had all kinds of anticipation about how I would feel and what it would look like....it wasn't until I got around the light house and out on to the rocks that I felt like I was there.... I totally understand how one could believe it was the end of the earth not knowing any better..... And then I realized how lucky I am to know there is so much out there and that I am able to explore it....I may of had a " I have a good life" moment....pictures were taken.... I took pics of others.... They took pics of me....I found a comfy rock and had my picnic lunch with only the sea and sky in front of me..... And little lizards running about my feet..... I sat there for about an hour.... It was a hot day so was feeling the sun.... I climbed back up the rocks to the lighthouse and had a Cervesa in the cafe on top of the hill...I headed back down the hill towards town.... I had very reflective and slow(painful foot) walk down the hill.... Walking amongst the cliffs and seeing the fishermen reminded me of my friends in Yellowknife..... Seeing the women out clam digging at low tide reminded me of my friends in Rankin.....and I may of been singing songs out loud that were sung many a time at sing songs back in the day in Elliot lake.....and all the time wishing for a foot rub....funny the things that run through your mind....I made it back just in time to catch the bus.... Another 3 hrs of winding past white sandy beaches now with children playing in the ocean and people sun bathing.... May of thought about getting off the bus and staying a while!!! Made it back to Santiago for supper with Mom...am back to the hotel room looking a bit sun burned.... A great day it was!
