Sunday 13th September - Walking Rome
Some shops we open and we had a look in a few. Not for anything in particular but the prices were so much cheaper than the shops that we saw in Via Condotti the previous day.
The church in Maggiore is huge and we didn't bother to climb the steps to go in. We instead cut through a narrow street where there seemed to be lots of people headed and we came to another set of steps that went up through a tunnel under buildings above.
We came out at the church of San Pietro in Vinceli so on up more steps we went. There was a sign at the doorway saying "We don't charge to enter so don't pay anyone any money".
In we went and the outside looked nothing however the inside was a different story. The ceiling was brilliant and there were paintings and a fresco and there was even a church service going on down in one corner. Imagine that with all these people wandering around snapping pictures. It all seemed somewhat irreverent particularly as there was no monetary gain to have people wandering around whilst you are having your weekly prayer meeting!
