Thursday 10th September - Rome
We were up early this morning and headed up for our last breakfast. We had packed our bags last evening and put them outside our cabin door for to be put on shore in the morning.
We headed off the ship for the last time and wandered into a large building where all of the cases were stacked together in perfect rows according to your luggage label. Ours was 32 andwe found our bags easily and J&P was 43 and it took them a few more minutes to find their bags but once found we headed out of the shed to a waiting shuttle bus to take us the 1km to the port entrance.
There were buses of every description, some taking tour groups, some going to the airport, some going to Rome and ours going to the train station for €2.
Some traveller whom I had found on line prior to leaving NZ stated that you could walk the 400m to the Citevecchia railway station. After boading thebus and counting off 100m, 200m, 300m, 400m, finally about 1 km we got to the station and queued for ticketsfor the train into Rome.
Some chap on the station put all this information into the ticket machine for me and I purchased 4 tickets for €5 apiece. Then the mad rush to get onto the 8.58am train. No luggage racks on board so there were suitcases stacked onto seats, in the aisles, by the door and that's where ours all were and as a result there were hardly any seats to sit on for the 1 hour journey into Rome.
