Saturday 12th September-
We walked back to the end of the road leading up to the Vatican and looked back several times. We found a place off to the side from the main road to have lunch of bruschetta and salad and small beer and bloody expensive at €49.17.
A far cry from our local near our apartment - thank goodness.
After lunch we walked along the opposite side of the river and came to Castel Sant'Angelo which was a monument to Hadrian. Emperor Hadrian must have been a very vain man as he buikt monuments to himself willy nilly all over the Roman Empire.
He had this constructed as a mausoleum around 135AD and over time it evolved into a fortress, a castle and even a prison. Today it is a museum.
The Ponte Sant'Angelo Bridge has statues of angels sculped by Bernini and his pupils.
We headed for the Piazza de Popolo and the Metro Station to take us back home!!!!
