Friday 11th September - Pantheon
We headed down some pedestrian only areas and came around the corner to see the exterior of the Pantheon. We saw a programme on this building not long before leaving NZ.
The Pantheon has been the model of perfection for 18 centuries. It is known for its perfect symmetry. The diameter of the dome is equal to the buildings height. It is the most preserved building in the whole of Ancient Rome and is the enduring symbol of architectural perfection. There are several tombs inside one being Victor Emmanuel II and another being the artist Rafael.
But it's not till you enter the building that you get to see the amazing quality of the whole interior.
The dome is magnificent and the walls are adorned with the most amazing paintings and gilding. All of the bays around the walls were very ornate and depicted a different theme.
We were so glad that we had ventured this far. The Pantheon more than lived up to our expectations.
