Thursday 10th September - Trevi
We had a pizza and a Moretti beer and then headed for the Metro station to go from Vittorio Emanuell station to Barbarino station.
The trouble with the Rome Metro is that there are only 2 lines and neither seems to go where all of the sights are.
We got off the train and up the very long escalator to the street and here was a fountain, rather nice and water flowing everywhere but I didn't think that it was the Trevi.
We asked someone trying to sell us Hop On bus tickets where the Trevi was and he said go down there for two traffic lights and then hang a left and go right on until you see the fountain.
So away we went mostly downhill and eventually we came to the Trevi. There were hundreds of people there and the only trouble was that it has been empty for 12 months whilst it was being cleaned,- one month to go before it's back in action.
Even though it was out of action the whole thing looked magnificent.
The Trevi Fountain was built in 1762 and is one of the world's most elaborate and romantic. The God, Oceanus is the fountains centrepiece who preferred to travel by cumbersome shell shaped chariot.
We stopped to have a beer before heading up the hill to the Metro to get a ride back to our B&B.
The Italians would win a Gold medal for the amount of Graffitti that is everywhere. It's disgusting.
We wandered down the road for dinner after having a glass of bubbly and enjoyed lemon chicken and risotto marinara.
