Happiness Is The Road
Not a very exciting one today folks but do read on pleeeeeeeease! Everything was just a bit boring and frustrating today. First thing after breakfast I had to drive back into Perth to go to the Department of Transport office to pay stamp duty on my van purchase. This has to be paid on all vehicles purchased in Western Australia. The view of the city skyline from the Kwinana Freeway coming in was stunning. This got me thinking that the next time I see this skyline will be in about 11 months time with Jay entering the city on the Mitchell Freeway from the opposite direction. This will be when I have gone full circle! It's a good job I've got a TomTom as even with this it was difficult to find the transport office. Got there eventually and when I went in I had to get a ticket and wait for my number to be called. Had to wait about half an hour and I was a little bit annoyed that in the waiting area there was a TV pumping out world news. I've been trying my best to avoid all news coverage so I did my best to ignore it. Did catch, however, that somewhere in Europe has had it's first snow fall of the autumn. How much longer till the UK gets some I wonder. No need to worry about snow here as it has never ever snowed in Perth. After that I had to go back to Travellers Autobahn to get a couple of things on the camper sorted. Only took me five minutes to get there but ended up having to wait the best part of 3 hours! I had to get a new lock fitted to the back door and a couple of new vents fitted to the roof. It wasn't supposed to take long but it took a lot longer than thought. Anyhow, it was eventually completed and it gave me time to read some leaflets/brochures about the Geographe Bay area where I'm headed tommorow. After that I went back to Freo and stopped off at the Woolworths supermarket near the camp site as I needed a load of food and stuff. The queues though at the tills were awful, snaked back around the store. Worse, much worse than that bad day at Waitrose, mum! I just waited and people watched and did at last get through. On the way back to Freo I saw a bus with an X Factor advert on it. So glad I don't watch that nonsense anymore. I only saw by accident a couple of minutes of the new UK series a few weeks ago when Maurice had it on and tried to blame it on Jay when Dotty came into the room! You may have noticed that on the bus photo a sign for Chicken Treat. They are a kind of KFC type place that I think you only get in Australia. I'm definitely not going to be eating from them this trip but I did when I was here 20 years ago. Anyhow seeing Chicken Treat reminded me of an advertising campaign Chicken Treat were running on Aussie TV 20 years ago and for some unknown and completely mad reason I can still remember the song that went with the advert! Sing along now!:-
Chicken Treat has gone Hawaiian
Save a Buck without even tryin
Get a Dollar off every Hawaiian pack now
At Chicken Treat every day
OOOH I've got the taste
OOOH I've got the taste!!!!!!
Sad I know!
So after the mega queue at Woolworths if it was back to the campsite for tea and to plan my journey tomorrow. I'm heading out of the Perth Metropolitan area tomorrow and heading south to Yallingup. Happiness Is The Road.
