Happiness Is The Road
Hey guys, It's a hot one today, hottest day so far, 32 degrees. Clear blue sky and gorgeous. Sorry to hear that your clocks go back tonight and you're plunged into darkness and winter. Got up and had breakfast. The cooking facilities on the van are great but you don't have much space so you have to be very organised to do everything. I've got 2 gas burners, a gas grill, a microwave, a fridge and a little sink with water pump. What more could you ask for. As usual breakfast was had outdoors, as is lunch and tea. I love the outdoor life. I also love life away from the rat race and from the TV and news media. I watched about 5 minutes of TV at the apartment in Perth just to see whether Australian TV was as bad as I remembered it, it was worse! I don't miss the TV at all and will avoid the TV over here completely. Also I'm doing my best to avoid all news media, I haven't read a newspaper since I got here and with no TV I haven't a clue what's happening, which is great. It's all depressing bad news anyhow so I'm much happier being oblivious to it. I know for definite that the rat race and the greedy, soul destroying corporate world isn't for me anymore. Anyway I digress, this morning I tried to follow the signs through the camp site to the beach but this place is like a maze and I couldn't find the beach gate. I went round the outside of the camp site the road way in the end and then found the gate in a cryptic place. At least I now know how to get back. It's about a 10 minute walk to the beach through a building site. There are new apartments and houses being built along the sea front. Perth's population is expanding all the time so new land is being released all the time to cope with the demand. The beach here is nice enough (by british standards) but nowhere near as gorgeous as City Beach and Scarborough. Also it was a dog beach so didn't stay long. Discovered later that the non dog beach was only a short walk away but didn't know that at the time. Came back for lunch and then had a walk along the sea front into Fremantle. Took about 45 minutes, was a bit further than I thought, but made it despite the 32 degrees heat. Went to d*** Smith Electronics ( think Maplin crossed with Dixons) to get something for the van and then feeling a tad thirsty went to check out the Sail & Anchor brew pub to see whether it had changed in 14 years. They are still brewing their own beer but the hand pumps aren't being used anymore. Never mind though as the quality of the beer was excellent. I had the Sail & Anchor IPA costing $10 a pint! After refreshment I had a mooch around the Fremantle Markets next door. This place is great with a brilliant food market and loads of interesting stalls. There was one stall in particular which really really caught my attention, what they were selling was right up my street. I found the perfect thing but can't tell you what. You'll have to be intrigued but it's a surprise for Jay and I'm sworn to secrecy! I then headed back along the beach, paddling in the sea and watching the sun getting ready to set. Tea was kangaroo burgers, spuds and salad washed down with an Emu Bitter. This is the life for me. Just can't wait for Jay to get here and be with me. You're just gonna love this place Jay. Sweet dreams Possums.
