The inland areas of outback Queensland have provided us with many lovely camp areas, all free! We have followed rivers, dams and weirs for a while now. We still have many more to go. Currently we are at a weir south west of Rockhampton toward Emerald. We intend to head to Emerald but are detouring to check out these wonderful waterways in this area. The area is in drought so many of the waterways are low in water but we still manage to enjoy what is there. ...

We farewelled our new friends at Chinchilla and through broken phone calls and messages we arranged to meet up with our friends from a few stops back, Ray and Bev. They had been to Wuruma Dam and said it was the best yet - we hadnt reached that area yet but they wanted to catch up with us so they went back to the Dam and we headed there to meet them. We stayed a couple of nights at Surat at the Fishing Club area near the river. It was a lovely spot and Allen even got to have a game of bowls in town. Then we moved on through to Roma and just toured the area but didnt stay. We restocked the food cupboard at Roma and then moved on to Miles had a short stop and then moved on to check out Gill Weir which is about 8km from Miles. St George was not what we thought it would be and we didnt spend long there. We had been told that Beardmore Dam just out of St George was a good place to stay but when we got there there were 'camping prohibited' signs everywhere so off we go down the road. Still travelling west in southern QLD, we ended up at a place called Nindigully. Not a town just a pub! The pub offers free camping, free showers and toilets and of course good pub company and food. The area behind the pub where camping is permitted has had recent heavy rain and some of the crusty top mud that looks like it is hard and dry is wet underneath and I managed to step into it....yuk!
