We farewelled our new friends at Chinchilla and through broken phone calls and messages we arranged to meet up with our friends from a few stops back, Ray and Bev. They had been to Wuruma Dam and said it was the best yet - we hadnt reached that area yet but they wanted to catch up with us so they went back to the Dam and we headed there to meet them.
They were right, it is the best yet. An amazing huge dam with heaps of camping space right on the waterfront. We set up camp and the boat was off the car pronto. They were catching 'red claw' (a type of yabbie/crayfish) here and the boys wanted to set the nets out that night. The next morning at the crack of dawn, ALL the boats on the waterfront start their motors and off they go to collect their pots. Definately no chance of sleeping in around this spot. As the boats come back in all the guys compare their catch. With each catch, the desire to go and get more next time increased. We had a week at Waruma Dam with 'red claw for lunch everyday!
We had a nice community of campers around us, a beautiful dam in front of us, lunch at the ready in the glassy water and come happy hour, fun playing a game of left-right-centre. It is a fun game for a group and only costs a dollar each with a chance to win the lot.
Totally recommend this place to everyone......a must for those who are contemplating traveling.
