We stayed a couple of nights at Surat at the Fishing Club area near the river. It was a lovely spot and Allen even got to have a game of bowls in town.
Then we moved on through to Roma and just toured the area but didnt stay. We restocked the food cupboard at Roma and then moved on to Miles had a short stop and then moved on to check out Gill Weir which is about 8km from Miles. We didnt like the look of that camp area so we moved on to Chinchilla.
Chinchilla Weir was fantastic. It had free power! The idea was to boost the economy by having people stay near town, they would spend there. What a forward thinking council, and what a shock to find a forward thinking council! The camp area was really nice and they had toilets available as well. We met some nice people and had a few get-togethers with them. One couple had a very fluffy dog named Bobby and he was still a pup and wanted to play, he was sooo hyper. One couple grew all their own fruits and veges (and meat) and bought out a dragon fruit all cut up for us all to try. No one had had one before so we all tasted it and decided it had very little taste, a bit like a kiwi fruit in texture but with no flavour. Then they bought out a champagne melon, a yellow watermelon. Yummm it was delcious, tasted just like a normal watermelon. Then another couple disappeared into their van and came out with their speciality, Bunya Nut! So we all had a go at them too....hard to discribe them. It was a great stay with friendly people. We loved it.
Chinchilla will always be remembered because of the lovely people we met, the generosity of the council and the location on the weir.
