We found another gem of a camp ground. Traveling from Charters Towers we headed toward Ravenswood and then on to the Burdekin Falls Dam which we had read about in a leaflet.
It is quite a way in off the main road but well worth it. We hardly saw a vehicle all the way there and we thought maybe this place would be a dud and no one would be there....we were wrong. There were others there but plenty of room for us. This place had power, water, amenities (nice hot showers) and washing for $2 a load (not that we use it as we have our own machine). The scenery was great, mountains in the horizon and of course the beautiful dam and Lake Dalrymple.
We thought we might stay a couple of days and ended up staying 6 days because it was so nice. Allen was putting out the nets to catch our feed of redclaw crayfish every day and we were kept well fed. The redclaw here were plentiful and huge. We met some lovely people, Glenda and Kevin had a baby Q cooker and Glenda made us some scones for morning tea....yum.
Previously we had been boiling the redclaw and slicing them on a bed of lettuce with a mix of mayo and sweet chilli sauce for a cocktail, or slicing them onto fresh bread for a sandwich, or even putting them into a curry pasta but this time we we told to try them a different way. Leave the shell on, slice the belly, pour on oil, add garlic and a little chilli and bbq or pan fry them......yumm Allen is hooked. Now it looks like they all have to be done this way.
We really enjoyed this area. Totally recommend it to those out there enjoying the good life.
