Crew Frivolous
Leaving Fitzroy Crossing to drive to Broome 400 kms away, another hard day of driving. Pulled into Derby to have a look at the Prison Boab tree and then onto the Port to see the sea. The water was a long way down, approximately 15 m, at the end of the jetty, the tide was out and most of what we could see was mud flats. On to Broome to stay with the Leach family. Set up camp at Ken and Janette's place and then into the shopping plaza to do some much loved shopping. On returning to our vehicles we noticed a truck attempting to reverse out of a parking lot. As the truck was heading for the Turtle I thought I would assist this person in missing my vehicle. Two forward and reverse manoeuvres went well it was only the third manoeuvre that didn’t. Apparently stop means something else in German, so the tray of the truck ended up in the corner of the Turtle. Barely scratched the turtle, but the poor old German tourist had holed the water tank on the prime mover of his fifth wheeler.
Back to Ken’s for a barbeque and some refreshments. As the night progressed and got colder a fire was lit and we all sat around it to keep warm. Later in the night Ken thought it would be good to light up the Pandanas Palm that was overhanging the fire barrel. For the next 15 minutes we were not complaining about the cold, in fact some were worried that the house might go up as well. We needed a few shot to calm our nerves and then off to bed to dream of tomorrows adventures.
