Crew Frivolous
Left the Eighty Mile Camp Ground early morning and we were now heading for the Karijini National Park. We drove about 570kms before driving into the park.
Part way up the road, we paid $12 for a day pass to enter the national park. We then proceeded to the camping ground and when we got there the sign told us it was full. School Holidays strike again. Anyway the sign directed us to the overflow camping. We met a very easy going ranger who gave us the run down. He told us we could park anywhere and don’t worry if you run over anything as he was going to burn it all in a few months. The overflow
turned out to be free, awesome, and there was bore water provided and even a garbage truck. We set up camp on the red dirt and we settled in for the night. No camp fires in the national park.
Next morning up with the sparrows and had breakfast and we were off to our first gorge. Headed for Dales Gorge day park area. We all checked out the Circular pools from the lookout. Joe and Colin decided to have a go at the class 4 walk down in the gorge while Jen and Wendy took the leisurely stroll around the top.
Colin and Joe headed down into the bowels of the earth, not quite but it was a reminder of the decent of Uluru. Knees burning and we arrive at the bottom then made our way through the maze of rocks. There were many amazing pools and rock formations to be seen. After visiting the Circular pools we headed around to the Fortescue Falls. This was an easy walk and took about 45 minutes. The boys met the girls who had walked down the class 3 walk to the
Fortescue falls.
The next to visit was the Fern Pool. It looked so inviting that Colin and Wendy went in for a dip. No need for a shower that night as a cold bath had been had, Brrrr.
Headed back to the car cark for a well-deserved lunch.
Drove around to Kalamina Gorge which was about 30kms away. We all walked down to the bottom of the Gorge and then back along the top. In the vehicles again and off to Joffre falls look out then proceeded to Knox Gorge look out.
Back to camp and tea done. The air was fresh and we all rugged up, jackets and uggies. It was off to bed by 8pm to watch and other couple of episodes of our favourite soapies.
Fully recharged we awoke to a cool morning with plans to head to Hamersley Gorge. This gorge was a fair way off, we had to trek about 100kms to get there, some bitumen and some gravel. Well the drive was well worth it. The small climb in was relatively easy. When we got to the pool we all sat around after our photo shoots and gazed into the water for a quite a while. We watched as the fish swam around lazily in the morning sunlight water. There were a few euro tourists jumping into the pools gasping for air when they dived into the sub 10 degree water. None of us had the inclination to jump in.
Had lunch in the carpark and then headed off to Tom Price. The boys were quite interested in seeing a totally different open cut mine site. We drove up Mt Nameless so we could get an eagle eyes view and it was well worth putting the hubs in.
Back to camp and another 90 clicks done. Tea and off to bed early to get away from another cold night. Another couple of episodes done.
