Camino 3
Big climb out of Portomarin but after that it was pretty good. It remaining misty and low cloud most of the day, only getting sunny about an hour out of Palais de Rei. I stopped for fresh orange juice and empanadas on the way. The empanadas are very different to the South American ones. The Spanish ones are more like a family pie, and much thinner. Still good though. When I arrived the arrangement was for me to call the hotel and they were coming to pick me up as it was a long way out of this town. I did this and the appointed place was the town hall. Opposite there was a bar called Bar Britania, so I had to have a couple of beers in there whilst waiting. Plus some beautiful local cheese on bread. So I was picked up and taken to this most beautiful country house which has only 7 guests. It is in the middle of the countryside, surrounded by dairy farms. Pictures attached. Absolutely beautiful. Dinner here tonight. Unfortunately there seems to have been a large influx of Americans who have been flown to do the last 100km of the Camino. Last night at dinner they took over the place and I have already had to listen to one American lady on Skype to her husband in the US. As usual they are not quiet and I now feel as if I know her intimately! Which I don't want. I hope this evenings dinner doesn't descend into an American talk fest. Where are my fellow pilgrims? I have to admit I had a good dinner with my 4 American friends. We had a good chat, plenty of wine and some local liqueurs.
