Leaving Assos for Agrostili, the capital for one night before out flight home the next morning.
The capital was virtually all destroyed in the 1953 earthquake where 100,00 island residents fled to live elsewhere. The rest stayed to rebuild their island. The capital is therefore very modern with very little of the huge buildings remaining.
We head for the sea front in search of the turtles and were not disappointed and watched 4 feeding off the fisherman's scraps. The afternoon was spent at Gradakia beach, one I picked up on TA with good snorkelling. It was a smallish cove, with interesting rock formations. Not a lot in the sea for snorkelling but we enjoyed our last day here.
All in all, our trip was superb and absolutely loved Cephalonia. We didn't have long to plan it, just a couple of weeks I think as it was a bonus holiday.
Recommended for sure and you must see the whole of the island, hiring a car so that you can experience all it has to offers and find off the beaten track places like we did.
