We traveled from Lindos onto Rhodes Town staying in what is known as the new part of town.
The Alga Hotel we booked via booking.com, modern hotel, smallish room but all we needed. Bed was comfortable, clean and bathroom modern. We had views of the coast and the Turkish Coast from our room. Staff on reception were very friendly.
Breakfast was not as expected continental style but also supposed to be hot. We paid extra for this and after asking for a refund they kindly arranged for the staff in the kitchen to cook us sausages and bacon.
Top tip go to Itailian over the road, one night we had a storm so didn't walk into Old Town and ran over the road, we returned the next night, food was amazing!
We also drank at a local bar around the corner, lovely garden at the back full of all sorts and swinging hammocks.
During our stay we roamed every single street of Old Rhodes town using our DK book as a guide. you can see where we went looking at the photos. Loved exploring Rhodes Town in mid October, not crowded like our previous August visit where it was just impossible to see anything.
Top tip is to walk down the side streets. lose yourself in the small cobble alley ways you'll be amazed at what you find.
Yes the harbor gate areas were busy from a couple of cruise ships that were in dock but as soon as you walk a few streets away you have it to yourselves.
Definitely need a guide book and if you can organise a guide do that too.
Kalithea Springs we visited for a couple of hours, yes you have to pay to get in but we enjoyed it as we an Agatha Christie fan. We drove along the coastal road from here stopping and exploring the strange rocky bays. These were all deserted with the odd sunbed still laid out in the lagoons.
Kastelos Castle is worth a visit. Fabulous views.
Kamiros Ancient site we visited on our last day, again using our DK Book to guide us around as well as the information boards. IF there was a guide available we would have paid for one.
It's a large site so take the time to visit it for a couple of hours.
On our last day after visiting Kamiros we stopped off at a beach front Taverna near the airport and were treated to a beautiful sunset.
We loved our visit to Rhodes staying in Lindos and Rhodes Town, if you can book yourselves rather than a package, it is a great way to see the whole island, splitting your destinations. Hire a car, order a Terrain map on line and off you go seeing a beautiful island exploring every corner from coastal to mountain roads.
