Driving back to Fiskardo for our boat trip was not a chore, so beautiful.
First impressions were, 'oh' when we saw 'our' boat. Not one of the yachts or cruisers but an old looking wooden vessel! However, it was a super trip, really was. I have tried and tried to find out who it was but cannot and have forgotten. But if you ask down or check out on the boards for an Eco/Nature type trip then that's the one!
Full boat with returning customers (must be good we thought) we headed out with a comical pair, Italian I think. They gave us history of the island, stopping at photo opportunities and bays to snorkel. 3 I think. The guy carefully picked up a selection of sea creatures, star fish, brittle star fish, sea cucumbers, urchins and the best to last (for me) an octopus.
We had our own snorkel gear, but he has it all on board to borrow. At the last bay we stopped for food which was delicious, and they gave us a talk about the creatures they had in a container for us to see close. We even saw a tiny Sea Horse, could not believe it, have snorkelled in the Maldives, Caribbean and never seen one. This trip we had not bought an underwater camera, gutted to say the least not to capture this beautiful fragile creature.
Up until now he had not been able to find an octopus which I was most disappointed at. The last snorkel opportunity he was not getting in the sea however my wonderful husband spotted one hiding in the rocks whilst were were investigating the very large clams on the sea bed and sunken ship wreck. He dived in and came back with the octopus clinging to his chest.
The poor thing was rather scared though and squirted so much black ink, but they managed to get him very carefully into the container for us to see close. I was fascinated about their facts. They are my most magical creature to watch snorkelling, the way they move, change colour and shape is just incredible. The lovely creature was put back in the next bay along as they knew of a fisherman in the other bay which caught them.
Fascinating trip and was full of adults so please don't think it was for families only. Just wish I knew who it was so could recommend them!
Last night in Agia Effimia and recommend this lovely little harbour village.
