Wow 930am we finally rise, not slept so long in months. Still broken but feel a whole lot better for those extra hours past 5ish. Maybe these new tablets are working, certainly less flushes during the night.
Russ whips up breakfast whilst I sit on the balcony blogging. We then hit the town. It’s a lovely walk along the sea front and first stop the church in the Fortress walls. We continue on, Russ with map in hand and guide book. We walk to the old Venetian harbour and to,the lighthouse. Russ takes some great shots and we google the history of the light House finding it is actually Egyptian!
We stop for coffee before making our way along the new front with the towering palms and bustling bars. We then head into the old town picking the sites from the DK book and map. Russ thoroughly enjoying himself, he loves a map!
We stumble across the archeological museum as our map shows it near the fortress but then the lady informs us it moved 2 yrs ago. It has Interesting finds displayed for each period which are explained.
We meander though the streets enjoying the atmosphere very much. We eat in the old town at Taverna Stavros, colourful on the street place. I have lamb Kleftico which was scrumptious, really was. As I was having a hot flush and fiercely fanning myself a waiter comes over and switches the fan on the wall opposite me. Ahhhh how fabulous that was!
We decide to end up at the fortress around 4 as it is on the way back to our apartment. It is only 4 euros each and spend around 1.5hrs there. It’s really interesting place and don’t forget to pick up a guide when you buy your ticket. It has some great finds like the vault, make sure you investigate everything! I won’t say what we found to be a surprise to spoil it!
Heading back around 630 we shower and rest. Fab day, love the town and getting lost in its streets.
Evening we ate at the front, pizza and Risoni with beef, leeks and lime for me with drinks later at a busy bar full of locals and what looks to be new students getting to know each other.
Enjoyable day for sure with our painful calves from the gorge easing slightly and the ‘toe’ heeling very nicely.
