Next day 15/.6 we headed north to Anit -Samos discovering some fabulous views along the way.
The drive from Skala heading north was beautiful with even more of the tall cone shaped Cypress Trees. Some parts the hills were just covered, making it a beautiful picture with the higher hills behind. The road was deserted, and we felt like we were on our own private island.
We parked up at the car park behind the beach a large area and plenty of space. The walk started at the far end of the beach up into the hills which was a bit disappointing as from the map I had been sent I thought it would have been nearer the sea. However, it was a very steep climb making our way with the help of cairns on a very rough and rocky trail through the fir trees.
There was no breeze, it was very hot and we longed for the beach to come into view, Koutsoupia. When it did it we were so disappointed, not because of it’s beauty but, how far away it was together with a long steep climb down (and back up, grrr).
We came to an eventual decision to turn back. This for those that know us was a hard decision! I was not feeling too well (next day diagnosed as tonsillitis), so we headed back which seemed a forever walk along the dusty red tracks to the beach.
Boy was that dip the most welcomed dip, (nearly as good as the one from our adventure in Loutra Crete!) We relaxed on the busy beach, snorkelled and read then headed into Samos for a late lunch/early tea and enjoyed the fresh fish before heading back into Skala for the evening.
Anit-Samos beach has white pebbles, with lots of sun beds which are mostly free if you buy something from the waiters. Music is blaring and its bustling with people of all nationalities coming and going. A complete contrast to yesterday where we had the beach to ourselves in total piece and tranquillity.
An eventful day, again, we seem to have at least one of these in our ‘well planned’ holidays! Maybe I should let Russ do all of the research instead of myself!
