Not a bad night sleep for me though awake from 5am so enjoyed watching the sun rise. The colour of the sky changing from yellow to pinks to purple over the sea and monastery. Sat on the balcony I can hear the birds singing and goats bleating as well as Russ’s snoring!
Breakfast is included, coffee, fresh orange juice, toast, homemade marmalade (scrummy), bacon, tomatoes, eggs, cake and yoghurt.
We take coffe in our travel costa mugs/ flasks and glad I did as the cappuccino was too strong for me.
Arriving at Elafonissi we head to the island to find a spot.
Laying out our 2 shower curtains, parasol up we head for a swim. I must mention here that it is a cloudy day but still lovely and warm. Perfect really. The aquas of the lagoon even more beautiful with the dark clouds above us.
My toe if you are wondering at this point still has a plaster on it. I have dared not take it off but thinking I should in case there is sand in it plus it will heal better in the salt water. It has until Monday to heal ( not going to happen) I assure Russ it will be fine (today is Friday!)
I remove the plaster with a struggle, waterproof plasters are very sticky. The toe is a wee bit bloody and as I thought it looks to me as if it has sand in it. All the snorkelling I did though soon sorted this out and it was lovely and clean, the middle bit of the flappy skin appeared to have ‘stuck’ so I kept it plaster free, hoping it,would stay ‘stuck’.
I snorkel all over the lagoon seeing the usual suspects we find in Crete. I can never remember their names so won’t try. The lagoon is quite shallow and the deeper you get the bigger the rock formations with bigger parrot fish and ‘an’ other swimming in shoals.
In shallower water I turn rocks over on the sea bed and I have my follower of fish crabbing at whatever it is they eat on the fresh surface. It amuses me that the group of 4/6 follow me in hope I will turn more over, revealing bright coloured, whatever, it is! The only thing making me return to Russ is becoming cold, I could spend hours snorkelling, fascinates me.
Around 2 the sun appeared and I was amused by us all crabbing a photo of the lagoon with us in it! It gets busier but with our wide pitch of 2 shower curtains and my fins strategically placed we keep our ‘personal’ space with the sea lapping at our feet.
The day went very quickly, we swam, snorkelled and played bat and ball. I bought a set from Aldi at home, we were completely useless but it amused us very much at how useless we were. At one point I was in hysterics and Russ ended up lobbing ball into sea. He of course had to then go for a swim to retrieve it! We then stay in the water and play fetch which we are much better at! Russ sighed a sigh of relief as I am now ready to sit on the beach and read! Picnicked with salad we prepared and fruit.
We drag ourselves away around 6, shower and go to Kambos just down the road from us. In our opinion this was a big mistake. The service felt like ‘get them in and out’ and we had the poorest Moussaka ever had on a Greek island. Even the Asda Special moussaka tasted better. I had honey fried feta for a starter, Russ spicy pork. We did enjoy both of these but would not return.
Bed, sleep, bit better for me and looking forward to,finding Kedrodasos beach tomorrow.......
