Day two in Beijing and it was off to the Great wall or so we thought but eventually we did get there.
Popped into the local coach station so we could get on tour and ended up with a group of japanese/chinese hence the whole tour was in their lingo and we didnt understand a word of it but it was cool as we had a short nap whilst this was going on.
Anyway the coach stops so we think we are there but no, we are in some museum/shop full of jade (not really what we were hoping for anyway) but we had a look around. The tour guide then collected us and dropped us off in some cafe as we were getting a free lunch thrown in too. All we wanted to do was walk the wall not the above two.
Well eventually the guide came got us and we set off again and yes third time lucky we ended up at the wall and were very happy indeed. The only downside was that it was well foggy/misty, snow on the floor and very very cold but what an experience. To get to the wall we had to get on individual toboogens that pull you up the rather large hill. You literally get chucked on these things and shut in like some sort of rollercoaster. It goes up a really big hill and then you get chucked off at the top. After climbing some steps then you eventually end up on this wall which is totally amazing and well worth the wait. We walked a good couple of miles and climbed loads and loads of steps.
The journey back down was again on a toboggan but some little man drove it this time. I am sure he was a ninja in disguise. It was well good.
Anyway got back in to the centre of town Tiannmon Square at around 6 and headed to the hard rock cafe for some snacks and pop.
Thats all that has happened today so far, more to follow tomorrow.
