So had a swift visit to Nanjing as thought it would be good to see some other big city other than the one that I live in. It is in fact very similar to that of beijing but with less pollution and the wall surrounds the city and doesn't run through the mountains. Plenty of temples, places and gardens to see in the city as well as the mighty river that be the Yangzhe that flows through this place on the way to the ocean.
Popped out to the countryside today to visit one of the most significant buddhist temples in china although the guide books say that they are all significant wherever you may go. It was pretty special with lots of monks having a chant and a pray, caves with buddhist carvings in them and rather large grounds that took an age to walk around. These were full of red maple trees which have smaller leaves than that of the traditional tree and they are also red. This temple known as Qiixia is definetly worth a visit if you wish to get away from the hustle and bustle of a city. It is located about 30kms away and costs about 70rmb to get there by cab or you can take the number 3 bus which takes roughly an hour.
Visited Purple Mountain and the Mausaleum of some Doctor, I am not quite sure who he is but the place was packed. What you must remember though is to pack a good sturdy pair of stilletos for the hike as this seems to be the only kind of shoe you need for hiking. each of the places I have been to even Tiger Leaping Gorge the women hike in stilletos of some nature....only in china.
