Nothing exciting today...just some shopping for essentials and setting up camp. This camp is VERY POPULAR. It is donation only and in the same area as a war memorial. The area is the site of an army medical precinct that was used during WWII.

Driving from Lion's Den Hotel to Mareeba, we were 1km from stopping for lunch when the second trailer tyre blew out. It was much worst then the first which the air just leaked from. This time it blew the entire tread off and took the inner guard with it, as well as bending part of the chassis. Today we hung around the Lion's Den. The boys played in the creek and helped wash all the dirt of the camper and their bikes. Matt and I went up to the pub at night as they had a live band playing as part of the long weekend celebration.

We changed our plans after chatting to some people about the Bloomfield track. We were going to travel south through that way after here but decided it would be best to do it as a day trip and leave the camper behind. It was a nice drive but there were about 3-4 steep hills that would be a concern towing the trailer. Other cars were towing standard camp trailers fine but ours is too big and heavy. We drove past Black Mountain which almost looks like a dump heap but it is actually quite interesting. It started as hard granite rock but got fractures which allowed water in. This caused a chemical reaction, softening the granite into a soft clay. This clay was washed away leaving large rectangle granite rocks and weathering has rounded them.
