Barden's Great Aussie Adventure 2015
Driving from Lion's Den Hotel to Mareeba, we were 1km from stopping for lunch when the second trailer tyre blew out. It was much worst then the first which the air just leaked from. This time it blew the entire tread off and took the inner guard with it, as well as bending part of the chassis. So after Allyn went and collected all our lost bits we travelled down the road to the rest stop. Looking at the 3rd and last of the original tyres which Matt just put on, he found an egg in the sidewall. Luckily Matt's parents were with us at the right time and we put both their spares on our trailer. As luck would have it, this all happened just as the shops shut for the long weekend so it will be a few days until we can get another 2 new tyres.
We camped at Granite Gorge Nature Park which was a popular spot. The area has an interesting landscape with huge granite boulders which we went for a short walk across. It was quite slippery in places and a bit of rock hopping was required. The best thing about the park was the animals.
There were quite a few rock wallabies which you can feed. There are also turkeys, free range chickens, peacocks, giant cockroaches, a range of colourful caged birds, lizards and a snake.
Zach was able to hold the jungle python by himself around his neck and Liam was very interested in touching it.
