Barden's Great Aussie Adventure 2015
We drove past Black Mountain which almost looks like a dump heap but it is actually quite interesting. It started as hard granite rock but got fractures which allowed water in. This caused a chemical reaction, softening the granite into a soft clay. This clay was washed away leaving large rectangle granite rocks and weathering has rounded them. There is now a labyrinth that lies below and there has been many reports of people and animals going missing within them. There have also been reported sightings of a creature resembling the extinct Tasmanian Tiger. The rocks are actually grey but appear black due to the things growing on them.
The Lion's Den Hotel is famous from a time when the miner's used to write how much they had left on their tab or how much they owed the hotel and sign it on the walls. Unfortunately we couldn't see any of this, only recent things where people have visited and wrote something or signed their names which isn't that interesting.
