We went to the city's largest park today which was good for kids of all ages. We then checked at the underground hospital which was set up but never actually used as a hospital. It was built in 1942 by volunteers using explosives after the town feared they would be attacked next after the Darwin bombings. Driving in to Mt Isa it is a public holiday for the Mt Isa Show Day. We dropped by the Information Centre which had a bit to look at and then found a spot to stay while we are in town. After lunch we took a drive to Lake Moondarra which was privately built to supply Mt Isa with water when it was establishing itself as a town. A nice dam for recreational activities or to have a picnic at.
