With an early start, we drove through Lakefield National Park (QLD’s second biggest National Park) and Battle Camp Rd to get to Elim Beach. The Lakefield Rd had only just opened less than a week ago since the wet season and the roads were fantastic (only downside to being so early is not all campsites are open yet!). Flat and straight roads were a nice change to the PDR.The northern part of the park was great to drive through where the plains and lagoons are because there was a lot of wildlife. We saw huge flocks of black cockatoo’s, sarus cranes, wallabies, cattle, and even a dingo. The white and red lily lagoons were nice to see but disappointing. I'm sure there must be a better time of year when the lily’s shine more.
























Battlecamp Rd was also in great condition even passing the graders along the way. Driving through the Normanby River crossing (the deepest on the track) was not a problem at all with it only being about half a meter deep. There are also concrete blocks all across the bottom.


There was only two other river crossings that actually had water that we crossed. One of those was Isabella falls where we stopped for a break.

Unfortunately the afternoon turned to constant light rain so it is not very nice beach weather. It also leaves us with wet washing that won't dry.
